Here are the high points of what was covered in the class:

The Internet is dangerous these days, and becoming more so as each day goes by.  There are many free tools that any one can get and use to create viruses, trojans and worms.  

People do this for a variety of reasons.

Are you at risk?  Yes.  The large number of people connected via high speed (DSL and Cable) make a large and tempting target.

Are there things that you can do?  Yes.

Make a plan to stay on top of computer maintenance:

1. Update your computer using Microsoft’s update feature
2. Install and use an anti-virus program
3. Update your anti-virus definitions
4. Install anti-spyware software and update it
5. Run a full system virus scan
6. Run a full system scan for spyware
7. Backup your system at least weekly
8. Purchase and install a hardware router/firewall/switch
9. Install a software firewall as well

Are there any free resources to help me do this?  Yes.

Can I stop pop-up ads and spam?  Yes.
